Sweet… Philip Rivers Fined For Taunting – 30 Points

riversIt’s League Fine Day in the NFL today, and it continues with Philip Rivers.  On Monday night, in the opener at Oakland, Rivers was flagged for taunting an Oakland player by leaning down to yell at him and then spiking the football near him.  You might remember it… especially if you have him on your Fantasy UnSports roster (you already scored points for the taunting itself).

Another 30 points are headed your way, now that the league has seen fit to slap him with a fine for the shameless display of being his bratty self… a whopping $7500 (because taunting is far worse than actually fighting another player, which is apparently only worth a $5000 fine).

I have no doubt that with a little effort and determination, Rivers can be a petulant little kid again before the season is over, particularly if he gets to play against the Bears and his old schoolyard nemesis Jay Cutler (maybe the only NFL QB competing against Rivers for the crown of Biggest Crybaby).  Keep your fingers crossed, guys… I don’t think Rivers is done scoring you points just yet.

In a post-game interview he explained that he was basically just yelling variations of “Play to the whistle” because the two O-line injuries came on plays where the Raiders were tackling after the whistle and not letting up. Yes, it’s whiny, but he’s just trying to stand up for his team and wanting to avoid unnecessary injuries. Just figured I’d add what I heard.

Yeah, I hear you. I think it’s kind of like this… if Rivers were QB of my team, I’d love his fire. Ditto for Cutler. Because they’re not on my team, it comes of whiney. I wish he could find a way to jaw at other players without it coming off so… adolescent.

He probably got the flag, and the fine, because he bent down in the guy’s face and then tossed the ball near him.

I’ll agree with your assessment. If he hadn’t thrown the ball it might have been let go, that was dumb. I’m the type of person that likes to laugh instead of talk trash, so I’m not a fan of it, but I think you can see in anything outside of football that it’s really just an act (however childish and adolescent it is) that he puts on during games because it gets him motivated (which seemed to work for him in the 4th quarter).

Haha some good old trash talking

  5. Rivers 17 says:

He was just trying to tell them raiders were mad cuz they suck and always lose to chargers past like 15 games lol.
