Eli Manning Gives Away A Million – 55 Points

Eli Manning is a good guy, and he wants to help kids go to Old Miss who might otherwise not be able to go.

Either that or he’s got gobs of money and knows that giving some away will make him look good.

Probably the former. Anyway, he’s given $1 Million to his old college for a scholarship program, which is pretty nice of him. Nice to be able to talk about the good things like this for a change instead of an assault or an arrest. Though I could use a few more donut-break-in stories.

Good on you, Eli, using your fame and money for something good. 55 Points for you Eli and Giants owners.

This Is It!!!!

Okay, people… today is the LAST day for scoring Fantasy UnSports points. Any PQE between now and midnight (Central Time) is valid, and will be posted. Then, tomorrow morning, I’ll have your final leaderboard for this inaugural season. The winner will get a great prize from me, as voted on by you readers and players.

There have actually been some more PQEs in the last couple days. And I’m not even talking about Michael Irvin or Warren Sapp–though those guys are making me consider allowing former players to be eligible for points in Year 2 of Fantasy UnSports.

Here’s a quick rundown of the PQEs I’ve noticed over the past couple days:

Clinton Portis publicly admitted that he lobbied his coaches to put him in and pull out his fellow running back Mike Sellers. That’s cold, man. Cold enough to earn points–we’re logging it under the “Criticize teammates” PQE, which is 45 points, though I could make a case that this act deserves a PQE all to itself. 45 Points to Portis and Redskins owners.

Rey Maualuga, fresh off his DUI arrest and public apology, is headed to rehab. Good for him. I hope he gets help for what must be a very serious problem. That’s 35 points. In the real world, Maualuga has been a steady screw up for a couple weeks now… in Fantasy UnSports… he’s been a gold mine. 35 Points to Maualuga and Bengals owners.

Drew Brees is teaming up with Marshall Faulk to build a state of the art track and field stadium (for football too) in one of the areas of New Orleans that is still struggling the most since Hurricane Katrina. That’s a pretty cool thing to do, actually. 40 Points for Brees and Saints owners.

Hunter Hillenmeyer Donates Brain – 45 Points

Way back in the beginning of the season, we had a few active NFL players pledge to donate their brains to science to help with concussion research. We awarded points for that and even created a new PQE for it.

Well, here’s another one. Bears linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer has joined the ranks of those giving away their grey matter when they die. Good for you Hunter. Maybe this research will help prevent future traumatic injures.

Or maybe it’s just a good headline.

Either way, that’s 45 Points. (sorry, guys, but it appears the Bears don’t have cheerleaders–at least according to Google Image Search they don’t).

Couple Friday PQE’s For You

Ray Maualuga, of the Cincinnati Bengals (and also of the “hard name to spell” club), was arrested last night for a DUI. That’s a paddlin’. Oh, also it’s 65 Points.

Josh Cribbs is a good guy. And a thoughtful one at that. He’s thankful for the help of his teammates who have aided his rise to the top of the NFL’s return man chart. So thankful… he took 9 of his special teams blockers with him to Pro Bowl Week. Oh, and he’s wearing their jersey’s throughout the week, one by one. That’s pretty sweet. I almost think that’s better than a Rolex. 40 Points for this “good guy act” (under the PQE of “any good guy act not on the list that garners national media attention).

Also, Melvin Bullitt, of the Colts, was fined for a hit on Mark Sanchez.

The Saints Cheerleader is just for fun, because she’s prettier than Maualuga or Cribbs.

Charles Woodson Donates $2 Million To Children’s Hospital – 55 Points

When Charles Woodson isn’t busting heads, he’s helping kids. Today, prior to the game in Detroit, it was ann0unced that the Green Bay Packer has donated $2 Million to a children’s hospital at the University of Michigan.

Good on you, Charles. Good on you. 55 points to Woodson owners and Packers owners.

Oh–Happiest of Thanksgivings to you all as well.

Jevon Kearse Gobble Gobble Gobble – 40 Points

With his free time–available to him since becoming a “might start, might be inactive” NFL player–Jevon Kearse still finds time to be a nice guy.

Pro Football Talk reports that Kearse has donated 600 turkeys and Thanksgiving meals to the fine folks of our armed services at Fort Myers. It is, according to the article, something he does every year.

Hard to knock a guy who uses some of his wealth and fame to help the less fortunate, even if he is a diva who leaves games entirely after finding out he’s been deemed inactive for the game.

40 Points to Kearse and Titans owners for this good deed. Good for you, Jevon… you’ve mostly redeemed yourself.

If Hot Dogs Were Money, Sanchez Would Have Donated $1,000 – 40 Points

Still feeling bad over the whole “eating a hot dog on the sideline during a game” thing, Mark Sanchez decided to turn it into a positive. The NY Jets rookie quarterback donated 500 hot dogs and 500 hamburgers (along with plenty of buns for both) to a local soup kitchen.

That’s actually pretty cool… except for the fact that most soups don’t have hot dog chunks in them. I mean, wouldn’t a more practical gift have been 500 containers of chicken stock?

Anyway, it’s a great nice-guy move, and a pretty savvy PR move for a rookie. Of course, I’m still not sure why he felt a “nice guy move” was necessary, but whatever.

Anyway, 40 points to you Sanchez and Jets owners. If we don’t have anymore hot-dog-related PQE’s all season it will be too many.

Chad Ochocinco Is Freaking Cool – 80 Points

I’m creating a new PQE just on the awesomeness of this story.

You may have heard that first-place Cincinnati has been having trouble selling tickets to this Sunday’s game. It’s probably because the local fans have 20+ years of history with the team sucking. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were Bengals fans in Cincy that still don’t know the team is actually doing really well this year.

At any rate, the game was under blackout threat. It was, that is, until Chad Ochocinco and Motorolla bought up the remaining tickets.

That’s right. A player bought the stadium’s remaining tickets so the fans at home who can’t afford to go can still see the game.

That’s just incredible! I’ve never heard of anything like this, and it’s blowing my mind.

80 Points to owners of Ochocinco, the Bengals, or any player in the future who does this. Simply amazing.

Also amazing? He’s bought 40 tickets for an 11pm showing this evening of Law Abiding Citizen, and has tweeted that the first 40 people to show up will get in with him for free. Hilarious. Whatever ill will I had for him regarding his antics has melted away today with these two very cool events.

Lofa Tatupu Donates Cash – 40 Points

Man, Lofa Tatupu is one giving dude. First, he donates his brain to science. Now, he’s giving $10,000 to tsunami relief in the Pacific Rim.

One of our “Good Deed” PQE’s states: “Makes national news for a good deed not already on this list – 40 Points”. So, he just earned his owners (and owners of the Seahawks) 40 more points.

Good work, Lofa. You da man.

Vince Young Takes McNair Boys To Father-Son Breakfast – 40 Points

We don’t get enough chances here at Fantasy UnSports to give out points for positive things–hey, I can only award points for what NFL players do, whether their actions are good or bad–so it’s nice to see a story like this come along.

Steve McNair, tragically killed in July, used to take his sons to an annual father-son breakfast at a local restaurant. This year, Vince Young showed up and surprised the boys, taking them to the breakfast himself. The article says the kids were thrilled. What a great gesture. You may remember that Young saw McNair as a mentor, and they were very close. Just a classy, classy thing to do. Good on you, Vince.

Now if only Young could somehow also emulate McNair on the field, he’d be squared away. (Was that too far? Should I not have made that joke?).

I have created a new PQE on the Points page for this event. It’s unlikely to be repeated, but I’m obviously going to be awarding points for anything like this that other players in the NFL might do this season.
