FAQ

What’s with the whole lo-fi feel of this thing?

Good question.  Unlike Yahoo Sports or the NFL, I don’t have millions of dollars to spend on programming and database building–the kinds of things it would take to make this site fully automated.  Yes, I have that dream… that one day the site or the idea might grow into something bigger, but I’m not planning on it.  If only 50 guys sign up and we all enjoy the game… then it’s totally worth it.

So I’m launching this inaugural season on the cheap.  And by “the cheap” I mean “the as close to free as possible.”  We just recently upgraded to a hosted solution, so now we can play around with the design a bit as well as handle the extra traffic we’re getting these days.

If we need to, we’ll grow.  If not, then I won’t lose money on a silly website.  That’s a win/win in my book, people.

Is it just football?  Why not other sports?

Yes, we are only using the NFL this season.  If the game should prove more popular than I thought, or if the community decides they really want to add other sports… then we’ll do it.  I originally envisioned a year-round fantasy unsports game where any athlete in any professional sport was eligible for drafting.  It may take us a few years to get to that point.  The sheer volume of data I’m going to have to track–even just for 500 people and only using the NFL–is rather staggering.

What about coaches?  Can we earn points for a coach (either from our “entire team roster” selection or individual players)?

Yes.  Coaches and their off-field antics count.  If the coach of the team you choose the entire roster of does something stupid off the field… you will earn points.  If you want to choose a coach or two in your 10-individual-players selection… that’s fine too.

How many of these Frequently Asked Questions have really been asked frequently?

Almost none of them.

When does the season start?

Sunday, September 6, 2009.  Any qualifying event that occurs on that date after 12:01AM is a point-acruing one.

What are the odds I can actually win this thing?

Probably about 1 in 500, but I’m no mathematician.  The odds definitely go down if/when we add more players.
