- On the Points page of this website, you can find a wicked-long list of what I like to call “point qualifying events,” or PQE’s, which is a fancy way of saying “things an athlete might do off the field that can earn you points in this game.”
- The Fantasy UnSports game is free to play. We’re thinking of limiting the game to 500 players for now (yeah, right… like we’ll ever get that many). If somehow demand goes beyond that, I’ll have to find a programmer or a few unpaid interns to help me handle the load–and we’ll hopefully expand the field. There will be a prize for the winner (commissioner not eligible to win, though he will field a team and play the game); the awesomeness of that prize will depend entirely on your personal worldview.
- Each player chooses 2 NFL franchises, and 10 individual players. You can also choose coaches in your individual selections. Every time a player on your roster–or on the roster of one of your two whole team selections–performs a qualifying event, you earn the points associated with that qualifying event. The player with the most points at the end of the Fantasy UnSports season is the winner.
- The Fantasy UnSports season ends at 12 midnight following the 2010 Super Bowl.
- Players are allowed up to 10 waiver moves on individual players for the season, and two waiver moves on whole rosters. That means you can have an entirely different lineup at season’s end than you did in the beginning. Roster moves are made by emailing me at fantasyunsports@gmail.com (yes, this is as lo-fi as it gets, and I’m practically keeping score tallies with pencil and paper). You must put “Waiver Move” in the subject of the email. Players being waivered must be on your roster for 24 hours before any qualifying event of theirs can earn you points. This means that if you pick up Brett Favre, and 18 hours later he gets a DUI for driving under the influence of pain killers, you don’t earn the 50 points for that DUI. Likewise, if you drop Najeh Davenport for another player, but 12 hours later Davenport is arrested for taking a crap in someone’s window seat, you DO earn the points for that qualifying event. Got it?
- Final decision on what does and does not constitute a qualifying event rests with the commissioner–me.
- Any player who wishes to do so may suggest a new qualifying event to be added to the list, with the best being subject to a vote by the community.
- Players are encouraged to email links to credible news sources and stories they feel demonstrate or signify that a new qualifying event has occurred–I am but one man… I’m not likely to catch everything.
- Players’ scores will be kept by the commissioner, but each player is encouraged to track their own scores for extra verification.
- The commissioner will post regular updates in the traditional blog fashion, detailing new qualifying events or discussing a new item for business… possibly listing the leading teams… so be sure to check back often for the latest news–consider signing up for our RSS feed to help keep you in the know.
- Anytime new PQEs are added to the Points page or new rules are added to the Rules page, the main home page will have a note about it in the blog.
